The Jaipur Natyotsav at Jawahar Kala Kendra recently witnessed a poignant performance of the play “Chandalika,” adapted from Rabindranath Tagore’s story. Directed by Om Prakash Saini, the play explores themes of social inequality, self-respect, and love, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

A Story of Love and Redemption

The play revolves around Prakriti, a young woman from a marginalized community, who falls in love with Bhikshu Ananda, a disciple of Lord Buddha. Despite societal norms, Prakriti’s mother uses magical spells to bring Ananda to her daughter, but ultimately realizes the true meaning of love and redemption.

A Powerful Message

“Chandalika” is not just a story about a girl from a marginalized community; it’s a commentary on the deep-seated caste biases in society. The play highlights the importance of equality, respect, and love for all individuals, regardless of their caste or social status.

Stellar Performance

The cast, including Manvendra Singh, Anshika Rajpurohit, Khyati Shrimali, and others, delivered a remarkable performance. The stage decor was handled by Arun Singh, and lighting was managed by Vikas Saini.

The play’s thought-provoking themes and powerful performances make it a must-watch. The Jaipur Natyotsav continues with another play, “Parda Uthne Se Pehle,” directed by Himanshu Jhankal, on April 19. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic of theater!
