The entrance of the City Palace in Pink City is called the Tripolia Gate which was built in the year 1734. This gate was used as the old entrance to the City Palace. The entrance is also through the grand gateway, with rich decorations named Udai Pol, or Atish Pol, which the stable gate. The other entrance is Virendra Pol which is close to the Mubarak Mahal. The third entrance is the Tripolia Gate, which is reserved for the Royal familIes. Jaleb Chowk and Tripolia Gate are the two main entrances to the City Palace Jaipur. The architect of this opulent structure Colonal Jacob has successfully combined the Mughal, Rajput and European styles of architecture.
Tripolia means three Pols. Pol means arched gateway. This gate derives its name from its three Pols. All important ancient city gates of Jaipur have three different Pols. They are joined together with the center Pol being the biggest of the three. In this particular design, the Pols are part of a single structure. The smaller Pols are more of a decorative element. Mubarak Mahal – As you enter from Tripolia gate, the first thing that your eyes meet is the striking Mubarak Mahal, which was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II in the year 1900 for use as a guesthouse to receive foreign visitors. As it was situated in the outermost courtyard of the palace, it allowed him to be a gracious host while maintaining his, and his family’s privacy.

Now, this elaborately decorated building displays the museum’s textiles collection. This embraces all textiles bought for or collected and used by the men and women of the royal family, irrespective of where they were made. No doubt, City Palace has the largest group of historic royal textiles surviving in India today. These are usually part of the personal collection and being relatively fragile, do not last long.

City palace complex is a hot-spot for tourists in Jaipur. It houses two palaces- Mubarak Mahal is a museum and displays a variety of textiles and costumes. Chandra Mahal is a seven storey palace and most of it is used by the erstwhile royal family as residence. Tourists are allowed only on the ground floor of Chandra Mahal which is a museum displaying carpets, manuscripts and other items of the royal family.

When you are done with roaming around the palace, head to Baradari restaurant at its Gate No. 2 to satiate your hunger pangs with yummy food.

This is a beautiful palace located in the middle of Lake Man Sagar. You can visit the palace on your way to the aforementioned forts. It looks especially beautiful at night when it’s lit with colorful lights.

Recently the place got a facelift and got a heritage-look gate along with installation of Shahi Sawari. Shahi Sawari gives you a glimpse of the grandeur of royals. Street vendors here sell yummy local food like Chaat and kulfi here. You can also shop some knick-knacks near Jal Mahal.
