Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), a renowned cultural and arts center in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is gearing up to celebrate its 32nd Foundation Day on April 8. The occasion will be marked with a three-day celebration, featuring a range of activities, exhibitions, and performances.
Rare Folk Instruments on Display
The festivities will begin with a doodle wall event at 11:30 am on April 8, followed by an exhibition of rare folk instruments from Rajasthan. The exhibition, curated by Taneraj Singh Sodha, will showcase over 100 traditional instruments, including the Jogi Sarangi, Dhoom Dhadam, Jantar, Dafda, Singhi Shankh, Surinda, Nad, Naubat, and Gujri. Folk artists from various regions of Rajasthan will be present, showcasing their traditional instruments and attire.
Desert Slide Performance
The evening of April 8 will feature a special “Desert Slide” performance by Grammy Award winner Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Padma Shri awardee Ustad Anwar Khan Manganiar, and tanpura maestro Pt. Salil Bhatt. This unique performance will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Additionally, a children’s theater performance, “Mirage Melodies,” will be staged at 12 pm and 6 pm, directed by Ipsita Chakrabarti Singh.
Collective Performance of Folk Instruments
On April 9, over 100 folk artists will come together for a collective performance of traditional instruments at 7 pm. The event will also feature a special photo exhibition showcasing JKK’s 32-year journey, with around 100 photographs on display from April 8 to 10.

Jawahar Kala Kendra, designed by renowned architect Charles Correa, is a hub for Rajasthani arts, crafts, and cultural events. The center’s design is inspired by Jaipur’s original navagraha city plan, featuring nine interlocking squares that represent the nine planets.
